Ingredients

For the Beef Layer
  • 1 lb ground beef Choose lean ground beef for best texture.
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt salt and pepper to taste
For the Garlic Butter Rice Base
  • 2 cups cooked white rice Day-old rice is ideal.
  • 4 tbsp butter Use unsalted butter for better control of saltiness.
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup beef broth Use low-sodium for better flavor control.
  • ½ cup heavy cream Can be reduced for a lighter finish.
For the Topping
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese Equal parts cheddar and mozzarella recommended.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish Chopped, for a fresh touch.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Cook until fully browned, about 6–8 minutes.
  3. Drain excess fat and set the beef aside to rest.
Garlic Butter Rice Base
  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, but not browned.
  3. Stir in the cooked rice, beef broth, and heavy cream. Mix well and let simmer gently for 3–4 minutes.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
Assembly
  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread the garlic butter rice evenly across the bottom.
  2. Layer the cooked ground beef over the rice.
  3. Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  2. For a bronzed top, broil for the last 2–3 minutes, watching carefully.
  3. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Serving
  1. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve hot, ensuring each portion includes rice, beef, and cheese.

Notes

For variety, swap ground beef with ground turkey or add roasted vegetables. Adjust seasonings to personal preference. Leftovers can be refrigerated for 3–4 days.
