  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt A pinch of salt enhances flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs Make sure to beat in the eggs one at a time.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Consider using flavored extract for a twist.
  • 0.5 cups milk
Mix Ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Can also add nuts or dried fruits.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy for about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips gently.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze slices for up to 2 months. For serving, dress up with whipped cream, ice cream, or a chocolate glaze.
