  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and chopped nuts for the topping.
Baking
  1. Fill each muffin cup halfway with batter, sprinkle some brown sugar mixture on top, then pour more batter to fill the cups.
  2. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Finishing Touches
  1. While the muffins cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk for the glaze.
  2. Once cool, drizzle the glaze over the muffins and enjoy.
