Ingredients
Method
Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
- Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
- Let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Roll and Layer the Dough
- Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it into a large rectangle, about 12 x 18 inches.
- Spread the softened butter evenly across the surface, ensuring it reaches the edges.
- Fold the dough into thirds like a letter and roll it out again into a large rectangle.
- Repeat this folding and rolling process two times.
Shape the Cruffins
- Roll the dough into a thin rectangle and cut it into long strips, each about 2 inches wide.
- Roll each strip into a spiral shape and place it into a greased muffin tin.
- Cover the pan loosely and let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the cruffins for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top.
- Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
Use cold butter for flaky layers. Roll the dough thin for more layers and a lighter pastry. Allow enough time for rises to improve flavor and texture.
