Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (or non-dairy milk)
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
Equipment
  • 2 round 9-inch baking pans
  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooling rack
  • Offset spatula for frosting
  • Piping bags and tips for decoration

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the baking pans with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking. Use parchment paper at the bottom for extra security.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pans and level the tops with a spatula.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. After baking, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
Assembly & Decoration
  1. Once cooled, layer the cakes with frosting of your choice. Use the offset spatula for a smooth finish and pipe decorations as desired.

Notes

To store your cake, keep it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If freezing, wrap layers tightly and store for up to three months. Consider using coconut milk for a dairy-free alternative and gluten-free flour for dietary needs.
