Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream the softened butter with both sugars until smooth and slightly pale.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating briefly after each, then stir in the vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips gently with a spatula.
- Lightly flour a clean work surface and roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to stamp out cookies, placing them on lined baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
Baking
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.
Notes
Chill the dough before rolling for firmer shapes or sprinkle coarse sea salt on the cookies just as they come out of the oven for a flavor pop.
