Ingredients

For the Hot Chocolate
  • 2 cups whole milk You can substitute with non-dairy milk.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • to taste whipped cream or marshmallows For topping.
For the Coffee Variants
  • 2 cups brewed coffee You can use a French press or coffee maker.
  • 1 tablespoon flavored syrup (like vanilla or hazelnut)
  • 1 tablespoon milk or cream Optional.
  • to taste ground cinnamon or cocoa powder For garnish.

Method

Making the Hot Chocolate
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the whole milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Stir until the cocoa and sugar are fully dissolved.
  2. Continue to heat the mixture, stirring occasionally, until it is hot but not boiling. Remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows.
  4. Tip: For an extra decadent treat, consider adding a splash of peppermint extract or a sprinkle of chili powder for a spicy kick!
Brewing Coffee
  1. Choose your coffee brewing method, whether it’s a French press or a traditional coffee maker. Use freshly ground coffee beans.
  2. Follow the specific instructions for your coffee maker or press. For French press, allow the coffee to steep for about four minutes before pressing.
  3. Once brewed, add flavored syrups, milk, or cream to your liking. Garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or cocoa powder.
  4. Tip: Experiment with different brewing times to find the perfect strength for your taste.

Notes

Hot chocolate can be made in advance and stored for up to three days. Reheat gently before serving. Brewed coffee can last up to two days but is best served fresh. Consider making coffee ice cubes to prevent dilution in iced coffee drinks. Serve these drinks on different occasions like movie nights or brunch gatherings.
