Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced Look for tender cuts for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup kimchi, chopped Adds that signature tang and spice.
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced For sweetness and crunch.
  • 1 cup bell peppers (any color), sliced Vibrant color and flavor.
  • 4 slices provolone or American cheese Traditional cheesesteak texture and melt.
  • 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce For a savory kick.
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil Enhances the nutty flavor.
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil For cooking the beef.
  • optional minced garlic and sugar for marinade Boosts the flavor even more.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, sesame oil, and a pinch of sugar. If you love garlic, add minced garlic for an extra layer.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the marinated beef to the skillet. Sear for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until they’re soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Add the cooked beef back into the skillet along with the chopped kimchi. Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Drape the cheese slices over the beef and vegetable mixture, cover the pan, and cook for an additional minute or until the cheese is gooey.
Assembly
  1. Scoop the mixture onto toasted hoagie rolls and enjoy the heavenly combination!

Notes

Thinly slice the beef for quick cooking and tenderness. Don’t skip marinating; even 15 minutes can enhance the flavor immensely. Adjust kimchi based on your spice preference.
