For the Baked Apples
  • 4 medium to large apples Firmer varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work best.
  • ¼ cup brown sugar Can substitute with white sugar, add molasses for flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Enhances the flavor of the apples.
  • ¼ cup raisins or nuts (optional) Adds crunch; walnuts, pecans, or granola are good alternatives.
  • ½ cup apple juice Keeps the apples moist while cooking.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Can substitute with vegan butter for a dairy-free option.
  • to taste Caramel sauce Optional for drizzling before serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Core the apples using a paring knife or apple corer, creating a cavity without cutting through the bottom.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional raisins or nuts.
  3. Stuff the sugar and spice mixture into the apples, using a spoon to pack it down gently.
Cooking
  1. Place the stuffed apples in the slow cooker and pour the apple juice around them.
  2. Dot the tops of the apples with the tablespoon of butter.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the apples are tender.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days, or freeze individually wrapped for up to 3 months. They can be reheated in the microwave or enjoyed cold. For variations, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract or nutmeg to the stuffing, or roast the apples in the oven at 350°F for about 25-30 minutes.
