Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour the cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
Baking
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Making the Strawberry Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, pureed strawberries, vanilla, and salt. Mix until light and fluffy.
Assembling the Cake
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate.
- Spread a generous amount of strawberry frosting on top, then place the second layer on top.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake and garnish with fresh strawberry slices.
