  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced Aim for the ripest strawberries for best flavor.
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream Using an electric mixer can make whipping easier.
  • ½ cup powdered sugar This adds sweetness to the whipped cream.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances the flavor of the whipped cream.
  • 1 cup angel food cake, torn into pieces Can be replaced with ladyfingers or pound cake.
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional) Adds color and a refreshing flavor.

Method
 

Making the dessert
  1. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Be cautious not to overbeat.
  2. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
  3. In a large serving dish, layer the angel food cake pieces, followed by a layer of whipped cream, and then a layer of sliced strawberries.
  4. Continue layering until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of whipped cream on top.
  5. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
  6. Place the dessert in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. For best flavor, assemble a day in advance but wait to garnish until serving.
