  • 1 sheet sheet of puff pastry, thawed if frozen Use high-quality butter puff pastry for the best flavor.
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar For extra crunch, substitute 2 tablespoons with coarse turbinado or demerara sugar.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon Add a pinch of ground nutmeg or cardamom for extra flavor.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash to give a glossy finish.
  • Flour, for dusting Use to prevent sticking while rolling.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and cut it into strips.
  3. Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl.
Assembly
  1. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over each strip of pastry.
  2. Twist each strip several times and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Brush the twists with the beaten egg.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool slightly and serve.

Notes

For glazing, mix powdered sugar with milk and vanilla. For nutty variations, press finely chopped toasted nuts onto strips.
