Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup tamarind pulp (dried or fresh)
  • 4 cups water 2 cups hot for soaking tamarind
  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • ½ cup sugar adjust to taste
  • a pinch of salt
  • Ice cubes

Method

Preparation
  1. If using dried tamarind, soak the pulp in 2 cups of hot water for about 30 minutes. Skip this step if using fresh tamarind.
  2. In a blender, combine the soaked tamarind water (including pulp) with the diced mango. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher, using a spatula to extract all the juice while leaving behind any solid pieces.
  4. Add the remaining 2 cups of cold water to your tamarind and mango mixture. Stir in the sugar and a pinch of salt, adjusting to your taste preferences.
  5. Refrigerate for at least one hour to let the flavors meld.
  6. Serve over ice cubes in chilled glasses and enjoy.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using natural sweeteners or reducing the sugar quantity. This drink pairs perfectly with spicy dishes or grilled meats. Adding mint or a drizzle of lime juice can enhance the flavors.
